Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 16, 2026
At Kivo, privacy isn't a feature — it's the foundation. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using Kivo, you agree to the practices described below.
Information we collect
To create an account, Kivo needs a phone number or email address. That's the minimum we require to connect you with the people you talk to.
We do not collect the content of your messages, calls, or translations. Because they are end-to-end encrypted, we have no technical ability to read, listen to, or store them.
We collect limited technical data — such as app version, device type, and crash reports — strictly to keep the service stable and secure.
How we use your information
We use the information we collect to operate the service, deliver your messages and calls, prevent abuse and spam, and improve reliability.
We never sell your personal data. We do not use your conversations to build advertising profiles, and we never share them with third parties for marketing.
End-to-end encryption
Every message and call on Kivo is end-to-end encrypted by default. The encryption keys live only on your devices — never on our servers.
Instant translation happens securely on your behalf, and translated text is never retained after it is delivered to you.
Data sharing and disclosure
We share data only when strictly necessary: with service providers who help us operate the infrastructure under strict confidentiality, or when required by valid legal process.
Even when compelled by law, we can only provide the limited information we actually hold — never the content of your encrypted communications.
Data retention
We keep account information for as long as your account is active. Metadata needed to deliver a message is discarded once delivery is complete.
When you delete your account, your profile and associated data are permanently removed from our systems.
Your rights and choices
You are in control. From Settings → Privacy you can export your data or permanently delete your account at any time.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA, including the right to access, correct, or erase your personal data.
Security
We protect your data with strong encryption in transit and at rest, regular security reviews, and strict internal access controls. No system is perfectly secure, but security is the core of everything we build.
Children's privacy
Kivo is not intended for children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
International data transfers
Kivo operates globally. Where data is transferred across borders, we rely on appropriate safeguards to ensure it stays protected to the standards described in this policy.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you in the app or by other appropriate means before they take effect.
